Please review the enclosed roster which reflects the records at NDC for the date of print. If there have been any changes to personnel certifications or diver status, annotate and return a copy of the roster indicating the changes to the NOAA Diving Center fax (206) 526-6506. Attention is required on physicals and related tests indicated by the asterisk as lapsed. Prior to age 35, physicals are required every three years. Divers reaching the age of 35 are required to have a physical every two years until age 50. At age 50, the requirement changes to annually. Additional tests that are indicated as lapsed (ECG’s, audiograms and chest x-rays) are to be completed at the next scheduled physical. Forms and information for the processing of physicals may be found at the UDS website at Diving proficiency must be maintained by completing at least one dive every 6 weeks. End of Article


As of September 1, 2000, LT Bill Cobb, NOAA Corps, will be replacing LT Michael Hoshlyk as the Executive Officer/Operations Manager, NOAA Diving Center. In this assignment Bill will serve as the Unit Diving Supervisor for the NOAA vessels as well as serve as the point of contact for certification physical examination reviews and editor of this fine newsletter. Diving supervisors may assist this transition by re-checking materials submitted to NDC for completeness. This will help to minimize delays in processing. The deadline for enrolling candidates for the next NOAA Working Diver class was August 1, 2000. However, there are still slots available for the September class. For the January 2001 class in Key West candidates signing up are currently being placed on a waiting list. In order to maintain a reserved slot, units must ensure that NDC promptly receives required materials for enrolled candidates. Failure to submit required information in a timely manner may result in loss of the reserved slot. Forms required are available either by request or by visiting the website:, and at the top of the page is complete Diver Training form packets that may be printed out. Please complete all forms, providing the information requested and submit the information to the NOAA Diving Center by fax (206) 526–6506 or by mail.
