AAUS RECIPROCITY

The Safety Board approved blanket reciprocity with American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) chartered organizations. AAUS currently has 50 subscribers that consist of Colleges, Universities, State and Federal agencies. AAUS reciprocity is only granted at the NOAA Scientific Diver level, which limits these individuals to scientific diving as outlined in the OSHA Commercial Diving Regulations.

Individuals covered by the AAUS reciprocity agreement must present to a NOAA UDS or Divemaster the following: copy of the current reciprocity agreement; a completed and signed AAUS Verification of Diver Training and Experience form and proof that a dive was performed within six weeks of the NOAA operation. The UDS or Divemaster may also require a checkout dive(s) prior to operation (which is highly advisable).

Individuals under reciprocity agreements conducting operation with NOAA must follow NOAA Diving regulations and policy. The UDS/Divemaster must ensure that only scientific diving tasks are performed by these individuals. Enclosed are the current list of AAUS member organizations, a copy of the reciprocity agreement and the AAUS Verification of Diver Training and Experience form.End of article
