Standardized Equipment Program

Receiving Standardized Equipment Program Gear

Divers Attending NOAA Diving Center Training Program:

When a NOAA employee participates in NOAA Diver Training Programs, they will be outfitted with diving equipment.  Each diver candidate is required to submit a SEP Measurement Form (NF 57-03-65) with their initial enrollment information.

During NOAA Diver training put on by the NOAA Diving Center all equipment needed for the class will be provided by either the SEP or the NDC with the exception of masks.  Wetsuits, boots, gloves, hoods, air cylinders and dive weights will be provided by the NDC for use during the training class.  Upon successful completion of the class, newly certified divers will have the option to retain the items used during class or request an alternate gear in a thickness and model better suited to their diving/working environment.

Training drysuits will be available during class.  Qualified divers can request an SEP drysuit suitable for their diving environment, if needed.  Requests should be made directly to the SEP office.  Units requesting drysuits may be assessed a higher annual fee due to the higher equipment costs.

Divers NOT Attending a NOAA Diving Center Course:

Certification as a NOAA Diver is required to qualify for SEP equipment.  Upon receiving certification through the NDC, divers must complete and submit 1) SEP Transaction Form (NF 57-03-66), 2) SEP Measurement Form (NF 57-03-65) and 3) SEP User Agreement (NF 57-03-67) to request gear.  When completing the SEP Transaction Form, divers should indicate which of the listed items, thicknesses and sizes (if known) they are requesting.  All forms must be signed by and submitted through the Unit Diving Supervisor.  Proof of drysuit certification must be on file at the NDC when requesting a drysuit.  The SEP does not issue tanks and dive weights.  These items must be provided at the Unit.

Once the equipment is received at the Unit, the diver assumes responsibility for it.  Equipment should be thoroughly inspected upon receipt for damage incurred during shipping and serial numbers should be verified against the enclosed Transaction Form for accuracy before returning a signed copy to the SEP office.  Equipment found to be damaged or that does not fit properly should be reported to the SEP office immediately for replacement.
