Standardized Equipment Program

Non SEP Equipment

Use of Non-SEP Equipment by NOAA Divers

Divers are required to use SEP issued regulators and Buoyancy Compensator Devices (BCDs) during official dives . A waiver may be granted by the Line Office Diving Officer (LODO) and a copy of the waiver should be sent to the Unit Diving Supervisor (UDS).

Other personally owned or Unit provided equipment not mentioned above may be authorized for use by the UDS.  Maintenance and repairs of personally owned or Unit supplied equipment is the responsibility of the diver and replacement of lost or damaged equipment will not be authorized under the SEP program.

Use of equipment other than open-circuit scuba, or of breathing mixtures other than air or nitrox, must be approved beforehand by the NDCSB.

All personally owned or Unit provided diving gear and support equipment used for on-duty dives shall be maintained in safe operating condition.  Manufacturers' recommended servicing policies shall be followed.  A record of the inspection and maintenance/repair will be kept by the UDS with a copy provided to the NDC.
